The **Pythagorean Theorem** states that in a right triangle the **square** of the **hypotenuse** is equal to the **sum** of the **squares** of the **other two sides,** which are called **"the legs."** So the **hypotenuse** is the **longest side** of a right triangle. It is also opposite the right angle. And it must be labeled **"side C." **The reason that is so important is noticed that **C** is on one side of the equation by itself. The two **legs** are labeled **A **and** B.** And it does not matter which **leg** is **A **and which **leg** is **B **because they are on the same side of the equal sign. So let us go ahead and call this **"side A,"** and this **"side B." **So by The theorem, **C² = A² + B². **

Now, there are several proofs of the **Pythagorean Theorem.** The **Pythagorean Theorem** can also be stated as, “The area of the square built upon the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the remaining sides." It is a fundamental relation in **Euclidean geometry** among the three sides of a right triangle.
