Math Tutoring on Using the Pythagorean Theorem
The Pythagorean Theorem states that in a right triangle the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides, which are called "the legs." So the hypotenuse is the longest side of a right triangle. It is also opposite the right angle. And it must be labeled "side C." The reason that is so important is noticed that C is on one side of the equation by itself. The two legs are labeled A and B. And it does not matter which leg is A and which leg is B because they are on the same side of the equal sign. So let us go ahead and call this "side A," and this "side B." So by The theorem, C² = A² + B².
Now, there are several proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem can also be stated as, “The area of the square built upon the hypotenuse of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the areas of the squares on the remaining sides." It is a fundamental relation in Euclidean geometry among the three sides of a right triangle.
