Solving a Quadratic Equation by Completing the Square

The basic form of a second degree equation is given by ax² + b x + c = 0. Where, a = coefficient of x², b = coefficient of x, c = constant and x is the variable. Quadratic equation is also called as second degree equation. A quadratic equation has two solutions either two distinct real solutions, one double real solution or two non-real solutions.  Completing the Square is a technique which is used to solve quadratic equations, graph quadratic functions, and evaluate integrals. This technique can be used when factoring a quadratic equation does not work or we need to find irrational and complex roots. To solve the quadratic equation we need to follow these steps.

Step 1: Divide all terms by a (the coefficient of x2).

Step 2: Move the number term (c/a) to the right side of the equation.

Step 3: Complete the square on the left side of the equation and balance this by adding the same value to the right side of the equation.
