Math Tutoring on Probability of Independent and Dependent Events

Independent Events

Events A and B are Independent Events if the probability of Event ‘B occurring is the same whether Event ‘A occurs or not.

Examples of Independent Events –

1.     A fair die is rolled two times.

2.     Picking a card from a deck and flipping a fair coin.

Dependent Events

Events ‘A and B are Dependent Events if the probability of Event ‘A occurrence affects the occurrence of Event ‘B so that probability is changed.

Example of Dependent Events is removing colored dices from a bag.

Deduction of Probability of Independent Events in Math Tutoring:

When two events are Independent, the probability of both occurring is the product of the probabilities of the individual events.

 for Independent Events

If events A and B are Independent, then the Probability of both A and B occurring is

 for Dependent Events

If events A and B are Dependent, then the Probability of both A and B occurring is
