Math Tutoring on Dot Plot
Statistical questions are answered by collecting and analyzing data. One way to understand a set of data is to make a visual display in Math Tutoring.
A “Dot Plot” is a visual display in which each piece of data is represented by a dot above a number line. A Dot Plot shows the frequency of each data value.
Guidelines for Interpreting a Dot Plot in Math Tutoring:
A “Dot Plot” can give us a visual picture of the Spread, Center, and Shape of a Data Distribution. Each dot represents one data point, so we can count out the middle data point to find the Median. We can describe the Spread of a data set by identifying the least and greatest values. We can also look for Outliers which are data values that are either much greater or much less than the other data values.
