Math Tutoring on Determining Rate of Change and Slope

To determine a Rate of Change and also to determine the Slope of a line given two points we need to know the ratio.

 A Ratio is a quotient of two quantities. A ratio of a to b is given by the fraction a/b where a is the numerator and b is the denominator or by the colon notation a:b.

 A Rate is just a ratio that indicates how two quantities change with respects to each other. The Slope of a line containing points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) is given by,

m =  (change in y) / (change in x)

 = rise / run

= (y2-y1) / (x2 - x1).
