__Math Tutoring on Determining Rate of Change and Slope__

To determine a **Rate of Change** and also to determine the **Slope** of a line given two points we need to know the ratio.

A **Ratio** is a quotient of two quantities. A ratio of **a** to **b** is given by the fraction **a/b** where **a** is the numerator and **b** is the denominator or by the colon notation **a:b**.

A **Rate** is just a ratio that indicates how two quantities change with respects to each other. The **Slope** of a line containing points **(x _{1}, y_{1})** and

**m = (change in y) / (change in x) **

** = rise / run **

**= (y _{2}-y_{1}) / (x_{2} - x_{1}). **
